Sonic Soundscapes

Chicago Public Radio invites you to contribute to a new collection of sound – from the sounds of the city to the sounds of the prairie.

Broadcast during moments between programming throughout the day, SONIC SOUNDSCAPES are recorded throughout the Chicago region and aim to share the sounds of the diverse people and places that make up our community.

We invite you to submit your recordings to be broadcast on Chicago Public Radio. Any professionally recorded audio collected in the Chicago region will be auditioned – but we encourage everyone to pick up recording equipment and start collecting. Submissions chosen for broadcast will air throughout the Chicago region and live permanently in this growing collection for years to come. We will recognize participants on our website, although no compensation will be offered. For detailed submission information, contact Producer Tammy Terwelp.

E-mail us your suggestions of what sounds we should record and broadcast as a SONIC SOUNDSCAPE. What sounds define your neighborhood?

Participating producers include: Lucina Sosa, Delia Lloyd, Breeze Richardson, Gianofer Fields, Kristin Moo, Matt Cunningham, Christine Farrell, Jenny Lawton, Alicia Frantz – Audible Frequency, Charlie Meredith, Gabriel Spitzer, Ayana Contreras, Paul Flahive, Sylvia Ewing, Madeleine Bair, Tony Arnold, Jason Marck, Alison Cuddy, Ryan O’Connor, Tim Carnahan, Nick White, Jonah Locke Meadows, Jerry Curry, John Arndt, Mandy Matz, Beppe Mangione, Curie Youth Radio, Jessica Rudis and Fyodor Sakhnovski.
