Dulce’s story: Temping Full-Time

There are an estimated nine million undocumented immigrants in the United States. About 400,000 of them live in Illinois alone. The first priority for most is to find work. Unemployment in their countries of origin is one of the main reasons for coming here. Temporary placement agencies offer an immediate and language-friendly way to start earning much-needed dollars. However, many undocumented workers soon encounter difficulties. Ear to the Ground’s Dulce Maria Mora presents one woman’s experience with these temporary agencies.

Dulce Maria Mora is a member of Radio Arte, a youth initiative of The Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum. She was raised in Chicago but also lived for some years in her native Guadalajara, México. She went to Mexico kicking and screaming, but now appreciates that life experience. Known for her obsessive love of “The Beatles,” she hopes to travel extensively in the future and finally go to college.

Dulce’s mentor is Chicago Public Radio news correspondent Catrin Einhorn.
