Ten years ago the last place residents of the Chicago neighborhood Lakeview wanted to send their kids was Nettelhorst Elementary School. Now, it’s one of the most sought after. Susan Kurland was the principal of Nettelhorst when she and two moms helped turn the neighborhood school around. Kurland also co-authored

. She told Richard Steele the community didn’t always support Nettelhorst.

This segment took me back to my old neighborhood. I graduated from this school in '86. It was a good school back then. I still remember my old teachers and miss the 'hood.
