When he was 13 years old, Barney Brown was arrested for a rape he told police he didn’t know anything about. Barney Brown ended up serving 38 years in a Florida prison before being exonerated. He is one of many panelists who will speak today at a symposium that examines the question of what happens when a young person is intimidated into confessing a crime he or she didn’t commit. The event launches the first Center on Wrongful Convictions of Youth in the nation. It’s an offshoot of Northwestern University's Center on Wrongful Convictions. We talk with the Center's legal director Steven Drizin.
A symposium launching the center takes place today, from 4-8:30 p.m., at Northwestern University’s Thorne Auditorium.
