Nomi Stone is a poet and PhD candidate in anthropology at the City University of New York. Her new book of poetry is called Stranger’s Notebook. In the book, Nomi’s unites her two professional callings.

Stranger’s Notebook
deals with Nomi’s time living with the Jews of Djerba, an island off the coast of Tunisia. The island’s ancient Jewish community includes 1,000 members, having dropped 80 percent in the past 50 years. In 2002, Djerba was in the news. Nomi told Worldview how these events got her interested in the island.

Song from interview:
Chant de la ghriba (song of the ghriba, or stranger)
