Nuclear Family Vacation

Some if it is still on alert. There are portions of the nuclear complex that are flush with money and changing without much debate, and there’s nuclear sites that resemble rusting relics from another era…

Nathan Hodge and Sharon Weinberger are a husband and wife team of defense journalists and the authors of Nuclear Family Vacation: Travels in the World of Atomic Weaponry.

They traveled to nuclear facilities all over the world, including exotic places like Iran’s Esfahan Uranium Conversion Facility, the Semipalatinsk Test Site in Kazakhstan, United States' Kwajalein military outpost in the Marshall Islands, and even “Site R,” the underground bunker rumored to be Vice President Cheney's preferred “undisclosed location.”

Jerome asked Hodge and Weinberger why they spent their vacation hunting for nukes.
