When Angola’s 27-year-long Civil War ended in 2002, half a million people had been killed and 1/3 of Angola’s population was internally displaced.

Guerra Freitas survived the war. He now lives in Chicago.  Freitas is the founder the organization Share Circle. It works to help people near Guerra’s hometown of Quito in central Angola.

The Unita rebels put the city of Quito under a devastating siege for 9 months in the early 90’s.  Estimates of the number killed during the siege range from 30,000 to 300,000 Angolans.

Guerra survived the siege , while many family members, including his wife and child did not..

He is now works to help his fellow Angolans back home who still struggle to rebuild their lives.
