Beyond Golden Clouds: Japanese Screens from the Art Institute of Chicago and the Saint Louis Art Museum

Kyoto-based minimalist sculptor Okura Jiro shares the philosophy and inspiration behind his 1990 screen installation, Mountain Lake Screen Tachi, now on view in the special exhibition Beyond Golden Clouds. Influenced by American composer John Cage's ideas of chance and indeterminancy, Okura's work also pays homage to the natural materials he uses, especially wood, respectfully acknowledging both the physical material and its natural environment.

Performance programs and lectures associated with Beyond Golden Clouds are provided by the Japan Foundation, New York.
