Global Activism: Local Organization Helps AIDS Orphans in Africa

Each Thursday, Worldview's Global Activism series focuses on an individual who’s decided to make the world a better place.
Tom Derdak is Founder and Executive Director of Global Alliance for Africa, a Chicago-based non-profit that offers a series of programs to help AIDS orphans. He became an advocate for families affected by the epidemic in the mid-1990s, before global health organizations took up the cause.
Over the years, Derdak developed a multi-pronged approach to assist AIDS orphans. His group partners with a number of local grassroots groups to create small businesses that fund and provide support for orphaned children and young adults.
