Photographer Beatrice Tonneson Changed Advertising World

In the 1890s Chicago exploded as a hub for both commerce and the arts. So it makes sense that the two blended together so well and that the city became the hub of another industry-advertising. Enter Beatrice Tonnesen. This 25-year-old and her camera swept into the Windy City in 1896. She opened her own studio, and changed commercial photography forever. Journalist Geoffrey Johnson tells her story in the March issue of Chicago magazine. Eight Forty-Eight’s director and resident photographer Jason Marck talked with Johnson about Tonnesen's life.
