26-Year-Old Paul Corona is a Rising Star in Opera

Paul Corona has known since childhood that he had a future in music. Though he might not have guessed he’d have a full-time gig at the Lyric Opera by the tender age of 26. The bass-baritone is a 3rd-year apprentice at the Lyric’s Ryan Opera Center in Chicago. He recently spoke with Richard Steele. You’ll hear a bit of Corona in the role of Osmin in a 2006 performance of Mozart’s "The Abduction from the Seraglio," at the Chicago Opera Theater. Corona says he doesn’t come from a family of musicians. But growing up in suburban Elk Grove Village, he was exposed to plenty of opera music at an early age. You can catch him in the Lyric Opera’s production of Tosca through the end of January.
