Comptroller Dan Hynes Criticizes State Borrowing

Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes says he hasn't seen a plan for Governor Pat Quinn's short term loan request. That's after the Governor criticized Hynes for not approving it.

Comptroller Hynes says the state has borrowed billions of dollars already this year. He says he'll need some time before deciding whether to sign off on a $500 million short term loan that Governor Quinn has proposed.

HYNES: You know, borrowing isn't really the answer here. The governor's got to come up with a comprehensive plan to fix the budget crisis which he's failed to do. And he just wants to borrow on top of borrow on top of borrow.

Hynes and Quinn are running against each other in the gubernatorial primary. Quinn has specifically called out the comptroller for not approving the loan that would be used to pay the state's bills. The loan also needs the signature of the state treasurer, and he hasn't signed off on it yet either. Quinn says he wants the matter to be resolved by the end of the week.
