Holiday travelers will help give Amtrak a 70-percent boost in ridership nationwide on Wednesday, Nov. 25. That's according to spokesman Marc Magliari. He says the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is traditionally the busiest day for the train company. He says Amtrak will offer a special, holiday-themed menu for passengers.
MAGLIARI: We serve 7 tons of roast turkey across the system over this week. We'll also have 20,000 servings of cranberry sauce and 20,000 slices of pumpkin pie. Normally, the pie is peach or apple or cherry, but this time of year people are looking for pumpkin pie, and that's what we'll deliver.
Magliari says Amtrak officials spend months preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday rush. He also says Chicago commuters should consider boarding at suburban stations that might be less crowded.
