Illinois Unemployment Hits 26-year High
Produced by Kate Gardiner on Thursday, November 19, 2009

Illinois unemployment rate has hit a 26-year high.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security is reporting an unemployment rate of 11 percent for October. The number's up 3.2 percent since January.
Department spokesman Greg Rivara.
RIVARA: What we're really encouraging people to do is to take an honest look at what education, what training they can attain to make themselves more marketable so that they can re-enter the workforce.
Rivara says Illinois has been particularly hard-hit in the manufacturing and trade sectors. He says there was a brief glimmer of hope in construction though - where about 1,000 jobs were created. But Rivara says he doesn't know if those jobs are permanent.
Nationally, unemployment for October has been reported at 10.2 percent.

He's kidding. When nobody is hiring, all the skills and education in the world mean nothing. I work part-time well under my skill level to supplement unemployment. Tons of ads, few hiring.
