Life After Prison: A Look at Illinois' Re-entry Programs

Bookmark and Share Share

To learn more about what Illinois is now doing to help ex-offenders successfully transition out of prison, we turn to two of the region’s leading authorities on the process of re-entry. Deanne Benos is the Illinois Department of Corrections assistant director. She joins us by phone from the state’s TAMMS super-max prison in southern Illinois. And Diane Williams is the president and CEO of the Safer Foundation here in Chicago, which helps former inmates re enter their communities.

My husband used a free service by www.thenextstep99.com that REALLY helped us. We have been told by them that they have tried to provide their service to more Illinois releasees but have had no luck. Why would you not let this free service be made available to your releasees given the difficulty and the high unemployment rate in Chicago, especially for ex-offenders.
