Cook County Board President Todd Stroger is vowing to veto a measure cutting the sales tax by half a percentage point.
This is the fourth time commissioners have voted to cut the county sales tax since they approved an increase last year. Each time, the board has been met with resistance - and a veto - from Board President Todd Stroger.
This time is different, though. Stroger still says he will veto the tax cut, but a new state law reduces the number of commissioners it takes to override his veto.
And with 12 aye votes, commissioners appear to have a veto-proof majority. When asked if he would challenge the new state law in court, Stroger said,
STROGER: I can't answer that right now.
Meantime, commissioners are already preparing for less revenue next year. They're scheduled to hold a budget hearing tomorrow.
