Local Mosques Have Been Targeted After Fort Hood Shootings

The head of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago says local mosques have been targeted after yesterday's shooting rampage at Fort Hood in Texas. Dr. Mohammed Sahloul says mosques have received hate emails.

A man accused of opening fire at Fort Hood in a rampage that left 13 people dead and dozens wounded is Muslim.

Sahloul says he was part of a conference call initiated by the Department of Homeland Security this afternoon about the potential for backlash. He is calling for unity and support.

SAHLOUL: We are grieving, the same way that our fellow Americans are grieving for the suffering of the victims of this massacre, and we're praying for the healing of the wounded. We condemn this act of senseless violence.

Muslim leaders say they have asked local police to be on alert and provide extra protection.
