Alderman Question Chicago Police Board

Bookmark and Share Share

Aldermen are questioning the actions of the Chicago Police Board following the release of a critical report.

The report says the majority of firings recommended by Superintendent Jody Weis are overruled by the civilian board.

It also accuses board members of poor attendance at monthly meetings.

Fourth Ward Alderman Toni Preckwinkle says she's concerned by the findings.

PRECKWINKLE: "It seems like an explanation, not just facts, of the decisions that they reach would be extraordinarily useful to the citizenry."

Preckwinkle was one in a chorus of aldermen who questioned the police board's executive director at City Hall budget hearings Friday.

The Chicago Justice Project report also says the board members are paid - even though paying them is prohibited by city ordinance.

Boy, someone in the CPD must have not kissed this alderman's butt. As the 45th alderman is always getting special treatment from 16th CPD, such as personal requests for CPD to walk away from illegal activity because of payoffs from shady business'... one being a brothel w/internet porn.
