U of I Trustee Blames Chief Illiniwek for Admissions Controversy
Produced by Lea Coon on Wednesday, August 12, 2009

A University of Illinois trustee is refusing to resign amid the school's admissions scandal.
Frances Carroll says she's not responsible for the admission of unqualified, politically-connected students to the school. Carroll says demands that she step down are being fueled by an earlier school controversy.
CARROLL: This call for all the trustees to resign, I feel, is pressure about Chief Illiniwek as the mascot, a symbol, for the University of Illinois.
U of I trustees retired the controversial school mascot in 2007. That caused a backlash among some alumni.
The Chicago Tribune began reporting on clout-tainted admissions at the University of Illinois this past spring. A state commission later found unqualified students were admitted to the school based on political ties.
Governor Pat Quinn has since asked all of the trustees to resign. Carroll says she hopes the governor will talk to trustees individually before taking any action.

Hahahahaha! By far the most bizarre and wildly inaccurate statement by a trustee so far. The depths these people will go to keep their jobs are unfathomable. This doesn't even pass the smell test

Just goes to show that enough pressure can crack any nut.
Where was this wacky Trustee when clouting was going on?
Where was this Francis Carroll when Gov. Quinn protested U of I's treatment of military veterans a couple years ago in another admissions scandal at the Business School?
U of I defenders argue that getting rid of all Trustees would risk losing institutional knowledge. The faster U of I can lose Francis Carroll's institutional knowledge, the better.
