Water District President Enters County Board Race

Bookmark and Share Share

The head of an agency that handles wastewater in Cook County is running for county board president. Terrence O'Brien has served on the Metropolitian Water Reclamation District's board for two decades. O'Brien joins an already-crowded race for the Democratic nomination.

O'BRIEN: I've talked to many people [who've] been very receptive...They've seen what we've done we've done here as an agency at the water reclamation district, and I think they're ready for some new ideas and new energy as well as new leadership at the county.

Other candidates include incumbent Board President Todd Stroger, Chicago Alderman Toni Preckwinkle and Congressman Danny Davis.

O'Brien says he'll need about $2-million for the campaign. He currently has about $150,000 dollars in campaign accounts.

David Jenkins, Cicero // Friday, July 24, 2009 @ 8:56 AM

The Water Reclamation District is the worst ran agency in the entire Chicago-area. Every time we get a significant downpour, at least a quarter of Chicago residents' basements flood with water because some creep at the Reclamation plant hits a lever. And now they want one of their own to go to the County Board? Wake up people.

TERRY O'BRIEN WOULD BE A GREAT PERSON FOR COOK COUNTY PRESIDENT

Mr. Jenkins from Cicero is painfully misinformed if he believes a lever is to blame for basement flooding. Try getting the town to improve your local sewers, you pay enough in taxes!

Greg Scherz, Lansing // Monday, August 17, 2009 @ 9:08 PM

Terry is EXACTLY what Cook County needs..... the MWRD tax rate has gone DOWN in recent years....
