The budget cuts could result in fare hikes and the elimination of routes for the Chicago Transit Authority, Pace and Metra. Stephen Schlickman is the RTA's executive director. He says change in services won't happen immediately.

SCHLICKMAN: If they're going to do anything that involves fare increases and service cuts there's a period in which they have to have public notice, public hearings -- so realistically it can not be implemented until later in the summer, early in the fall.

The Chicago Transit Authority is expected to see a $35-million budget cut. The CTA's president says fare hikes and the elimination of routes are a last resort.
