Michael Pollan

Michael Pollan, acclaimed food writer and author of The Omnivore’s Dilemma, discusses his companion book, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto. Pollan has launched a national conversation about the American way of eating. He proposes a new answer to the question of what we should eat that comes down to seven simple but liberating words: Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. His revelatory look at the industrialized Western diet shows us why we should start making thoughtful food choices that will enrich our lives, improve our health and bring pleasure back to eating.

This program is cosponsored by Chicago Matters: Beyond Burnham, made possible by The Chicago Community Trust, our region’s community foundation.

Recorded Monday, May 18, 2009 at Chicago Public Library.

I was so very disappointed that this event was not better planned as to accommodate the larger than expected crowds. For all of Mr. Pollan's popular acclaim (especially with WBEZ listeners), a larger venue should have been selected and tickets distributed in a more organized fashion. I'm sure I speak for the hundreds of unhappy readers who traveled to attend the event and were turned away.
