A term coined by Frank X Walker, Affrilachia defines writers of color in the Appalachian region. Affrilachia has become one of the largest literary movements to emerge from the American South. After 15 years of carrying the words and ancestors on their backs, the Affrilachian Poets were officially acknowledged and the word Affrilachia was authenticated in the Oxford American Dictionary.
