11 Candidates in 5th District Debate

Democrats running in a special election for Illinois' open Fifth Congressional seat had their first candidate forum yesterday. 11 candidates showed up and that's not even half the number running for the seat.
25 Democrats, Republicans, and Greens are trying to fill White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel's seat in Congress. It was standing room only at the two-hour forum. Many of the candidates expressed similar views on issues like single payer health care and gay marriage. For Lakeview resident John Connellan, the whole process was a little overwhelming.
CONNELLAN: I'm going to encourage a lot more of my friends come out and see some of these debates and see what they think because they just, off reputation vote. That's not the way it should be. It should be what do you think, not what does your neighbor think.
Connellan says he's not yet eligible to vote, but four candidates stood out to him. He says from here, he'll do more research on those four. The special primary is Tuesday, March 3rd.
