Mayor Daley Touts Winter Tourism Despite Cold Spell

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley Wednesday warned residents about the dangerously cold temperatures hitting the city this week. At the same time, the mayor announced a new campaign to convince tourists to try out the city's winters.

The press conference was held at the Pritzker Pavillion in Millennium Park. A thick sheet of windows separated the mayor from hundreds of snow covered seats. He mocked the press for making a big deal about the weather lately.

DALEY: We've always had snow, I mean, we've always had ice. I don't know why, maybe it's a new -- media is looking for more exposure, you know you turn on the news and the first 15 minutes is weather.

Nonetheless, Daley warned people about the dangerous temperatures outside. All while kicking off a new winter tourism campaign. The mayor says plenty of people are willing to brave the cold and take advantage of all Chicago has to offer. There's also a new tourism website touting the city's attractions. But it doesn't necessarily convey how cold it is outside.
