Grant Park wasn’t the only place where Barack Obama supporters congregated. There were a number of gatherings in Bronzeville, the historic heart of black Chicago.

At Steelelife Gallery on 47th and King Drive, the crowd of young black professionals could hardly contain enthusiasm when Barack Obama was declared the winner of the presidential race.

Will McNeil, a Republican supporting Obama, called his nephew immediately after Obama won and told him …

At the gallery, a DJ played the old school song “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now” as people hugged strangers, cheered, danced and poured champagne.

But after the initial amazement settled, voters reflected on the momentous event. Most of these post-Civil Rights Generation voters said they never thought they’d see a black man go to the White House in their lifetime.
