The Things That Pass for Love

Writer Allison Amend is a city kind of gal. She grew up in Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood, and credits her parents for giving her the freedom to explore the city from a young age. She now lives in New York City. Tomorrow, she’s out with her first book—a collection of stories with voices as varied as the folks you might encounter on a stroll down State Street in downtown Chicago. It’s called Things That Pass for Love. Chicago Public Radio’s Gabriel Spitzer recently spoke with Amend, who says “place” is more than just “setting” in her fiction.
