Lake Shore Drive Resurfacing Begins

Bookmark and Share Share

The potholes plaguing drivers on North Lake Shore Drive are going to cause even more headaches. A resurfacing project to fix the problem holes begins later this morning on southbound lanes between Irving Park Road and Foster Avenue. Crews will close two lanes at a time and some ramps, mostly on weekdays. But all lanes will be open for peak rush hour between 6 and 10 a.m. Chicago Department of Transportation spokesman Brian Steele says this section has been notorious for potholes.

STEELE: During this past winter, our pothole repair crews were out just on that Irving Park to Foster section over 200 times and we filled over 1500 potholes.

Steele says work on the southbound lanes will continue through November. Northbound lanes in the same section will be resurfaced next spring. But Steele says the $6 million project is only a temporary fix. CDOT is already investigating a future complete reconstruction of North Lake Shore Drive.
