Lawsuit Filed Against Chicago For Its Gun Laws

Gun rights groups filed a federal lawsuit against the City of Chicago yesterday. They're challenging the city's handgun ban after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a similar law in Washington, D.C.

About the time attorneys were filing the lawsuit against Chicago's gun laws, an angry Mayor Richard Daley was bracing for a fight.

DALEY: Do you think your next door neighbor should have an uzi, an AK-47? Any type of a gun? Do you really believe that?

Daley says the United States has guns on the mind and the city will fight any challenge to its law. Enter David Sigale, an attorney who filed the lawsuit against the city. He says Chicago's laws interfere with citizens' rights to bear arms.

SIGALE: I'd like to see that ordinary citizens be trusted with the right to defend themselves and their families in their own home.

The Illinois State Rifle Association, a national gun rights groups, and several individuals are party to the lawsuit.

If someone uses an AK 47 in way not meant for self defence, arrest the guy. But don't ban all AKs just because one idiot decides to be iresposible.
