From No Child Left Behind to Every Child a Graduate: Connecting Local Priorities to National Opportunities

Given the significant challenges that Chicago faces in ensuring that all students graduate from high school prepared for the future, combined with the substantial resources and innovative approaches being applied, the district has garnered nationwide attention as a center of reform activity. In part because of that attention, several key concepts that underlie Chicago reform have made their way into the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) reauthorization bill currently under consideration in Washington, DC.

Listen in as Bob Wise, President of Alliance for Excellent Education; Arne Duncan, CEO of Chicago Public Schools; Bethany Little, Vice President of Federal Advocacy and Policy Development for Alliance for Excellent Education; John Easton, Executive Director and Co-director of the Consortium on Chicago School Research; Allan Alson, Executive Director of High School Transformation; Leonard Kenebrew, Principal of Roberto Clemente Community Academy High School; and Linda Lenz, Founder of Catalyst Chicago (as moderator), to explore these key concepts related to accountability and school improvement and their implications for federal policy.  The event also provided participants with an up-to-date report on the NCLB reauthorization progress and discussion of how a revised law might impact the district.

Sponsored by Alliance for Excellent Education, Business and Professional People for the Public Interest (BPI), Catalyst Chicago magazine, The Chicago Community Trust, and the Woods Fund of Chicago.

Recorded Monday, December 10, 2007 at Union League Club of Chicago.
