If you’ve ever driven in Chicago on that stretch of LaSalle Drive just west of Lake Shore Drive, you may have caught a glimpse of a massive stone mausoleum. It’s called Couch Tomb, and it used to be surrounded by other monuments to Chicago’s departed. Long ago, that patch of southern Lincoln Park was a cemetery – but what you might not know is that even now, human remains may still be under the ground there. A local artist has launched an online and on-site project to reveal the hidden truths of the old Chicago City Cemetery. Eight Forty Eight’s Kristin Moo recently toured the grounds to find out more.
