Chicago's Independent Caucus

May marks a political anniversary of sorts for the Chicago City Council. A year ago, nine new aldermen came aboard, but this wasn’t just any freshmen class. Many were elected on promises to stand up to Mayor Richard Daley. Now the new faces have joined up with some long-time mavericks to form what’s arguably the most powerful independent voting block in decades. Two of those members are with us now to talk about what the Council’s Independent Caucus has accomplished in the last year. Alderman Joe Moore has represented the 49th Ward since 1991. Alderman Scott Waguespack was elected in the 32nd Ward just last year.
