The Children's Museum's Effect on Navy Pier

In between racially-charged rhetoric and populist barbs, the controversy over moving the Chicago Children’s Museum has focused on the proposed destination. Often obscured by that dustup is what it might mean for the Museum’s current home, which Chicago Public Radio happens to share: Navy Pier. This time of year, the Children’s Museum is the Pier’s number-one draw. That’s according to stats from the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, or McPier. That organization also says it’s strapped for cash, which got us wondering whether they ought to be sweating about the Museum’s possible move.

For a little context on this issue, we turn now to Costas Spirou, Professor and Director of Social Sciences at National-Louis University.
