There's a new way to check up on Illinois doctors. A new state-run Website lists everything from a doctor's schooling and licenses to their malpractice history. The Illinois State Medical Society worries that patients could misunderstand the malpractice information. Doctor Rodney Osborne is with the physicians' group.
OSBORNE: You can find an attorney to sue for anything. Now whether or not that suit has merit is an important aspect for somebody who looks at the number of suits that a physician may have and whether or not they were dismissed, they were declared null and void. Those are the important pieces of that.
The state's Department of Financial and Professional Regulation runs the site. Department head Dean Martinez says the site should be only one tool in determining which doctor to choose.
