Newly elected Illinois Congressman Bill Foster's getting a push to the national stage from his fellow Democrats. The far west suburban representative delivers the Democratic response to President George Bush's weekly radio address tomorrow. In his speech, Foster will deride Bush for vetoing an expansion of the embattled S-Chip program, which would have provided health care for more children.
FOSTER: In the coming weeks, I would hope the president would take the same approach to health care that he did to economic stimulus; to put away his veto pen, sit down and work with us to work out our differences. Our children need progress, not vetoes and political posturing.
Foster says he's honored to be chosen by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to deliver the national address. He's wrapping up only his third week in office. Foster was elected earlier this month in a special election to replace former House Speaker Dennis Hastert.
