Villa Park Moves Closer to New Off Track Betting Parlor

The Illinois Racing Board has unanimously approved a request for an Off Track Betting facility in Villa Park. The Arlington Racecourse project has been hotly contested among local residents. But Joe Sinopoli, chair of the State Racing Board, says it's Villa Park's call.

SINOPOLI: I mean if a village, in this case, unanimously approves it, as far as we're looking, that local government really wants it there. So we're not going to say this can't be good for Villa Park when Villa Park itself is unanimously asking for it.

Sinopoli says his job is to help expand horse race gambling in Illinois. This would be the 30th Off Track Betting facility in the state. If the company is granted final zoning approval later this month, it plans to open the facility in late October.
