Today marks the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the Tet Offensive. Starting on the eve of the lunar New Year, North Vietnamese guerilla fighters surged into cities throughout South Vietnam. Over the next few months, thousands of Americans, and Vietnamese on both sides, were killed.
In the new book The Vietnam War Experience by Gerry and Janet Souter, you’ll find a full-scale replica of a South Vietnamese propaganda poster. It depicts a demoralized Viet Cong soldier, and tells him to go back to his family and village. It’s one of hundreds of artifact and memorabilia reproductions that readers can pull out of the book and hold, turn over, and flip through.
Eight Forty-Eight's Richard Steele recently spoke with the Souters.
