A prominent Chicago TV anchor riding as a passenger on a snowmobile was killed yesterday when the vehicle's driver lost control and slammed into trees in northern Wisconsin. The Vilas County Sheriff says speed and alcohol may have been a factor in last night's accident that killed channel 2 morning anchor Randy Salerno. The 45-year-old from Crystal Lake was pronounced dead at the scene. The Emmy-winning reporter began working at the CBS station in 2004.

Since arriving here from California last February, I have enjoyed waking up every morning to Randy's wit, humor and charisma. My deepest condolences to Randy Salerno's wife and children. He will be greatly missed.
