From rows of ripe tomatoes and wafts of wildflowers, to comfortable seating and lively street festivals, ordinary residents around the region are rolling up their sleeves to transform their neighborhoods - one practical step at a time. Through these small-scale improvements, neighbors are banding together to seek creative and influential solutions to such challenges as crime, traffic and struggling economies.
Through these efforts, neighbors are reclaiming their sense of community and celebrating their pride in their neighborhood, city and region. The Micro Revolution, features Jay Walljasper, author of The Great Neighborhood Book and senior fellow at Project for Public Spaces, discussing lessons learned from real-life stories of successful neighbor-driven improvements. He joins a panel of motivated residents from the Chicago area who have taken on improvement projects to make a difference in their neighborhoods, including: Gregory K. Dreicer, Vice President of Exhibitions & Programs for the Chicago Architecture Foundation; Pamela van Giessen, Co-Founder and Marketing Chair for the Rogers Park Garden Group; Alison Zehr, Co-Founder and Program Chair for the Rogers Park Garden Group; Adell Young, Citizen Leader for Every Block a Village; and Keith Holt, of the newly formed Major Taylor Trail Advisory Council.
