Okay, we’ve seen a movie, now how about a beer? But step away from the fridge!
Instead, how about heading to a neighborhood tavern?
Last July, Steve Edwards did just that with Al Derew.
Derew’s a member of the Logan Square Draught Beer Preservation Society.
The organization celebrates the craft of brew making, protects drinkers’ rights (who knew?) and works hard to preserve our city’s corner taverns.
Over the past fifty years, the number of taverns in Chicago has dropped from nearly 7,000 to less than 1500, in part because the city has tightened up its distribution of liquor licenses.
All the more reason, as Derew says, to consider your local a real treasure.
