We check in with Chicago Public Radio political reporter Ben Calhoun at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. We go back to the Democratic National Convention of 1944, when FDR fought a battle for the presidential nomination. Public policy lecturer Charlie Wheelan and the Heartland Alliance’s Amy Rynell joins us to discuss the latest census figures on poverty and the prominence of the issue in this election year. We investigate the success rate of a city-run summer jobs program. Plus, Richard Steele talks with the author of a Chicago Magazine article that compares Mayor Richard M. Daley with his father.
